The Lonely Londoners, Selvon
£ 10.00 GBP
See Details +
One of the first publications on immigrant life in London and also one of the first to focus on the poorer, less lavish depiction of London in the 1950's. Its themes include internalised racism, class seperation and lonliness. Great book for those who want to learn about a more realistic history of the urban megacity London is today. Condition is very good, tight binding, however there is a light crease in the corner of the cover.
Vulgarity in Literature, Huxley
£ 12.00 GBP
See Details +
Huxley's 1930 essay is a somewhat disjointed but ultimatly very memorable set of musings on vulgarity, as a literal phenomenon. The attitude of the book reflects the way his own fiction was going at the time, as he entered a phase where often startling and grotesque images would feature in his stories. A great test for critical work is one where you never look at subject the same way after reading. This essay certainly passes the test. A great read for deep thinkers. Condition is very good with dust cover, however some yellowing and scuffs to the spine as customary to a book of this life span.
McLuhan Hot & Cool
£ 30.00 GBP
See Details +
McLuhan's masterful understanding of media brings us 'Hot and Cool', a daring and disorienting book written by Sontag and other cultural critics. McLuhans ideas are startling and different: Is the book doomed? Is the television hot or cool? And McLuhan himself: Is he a latter-day Thomist or simply a know-all? The book offers an exhilerating chance to find out. The book is in fine condition, signs of age as is expected with a paper book of this life span.
