This issue of For Reference Only turns its attention to the people who appear - either by chance or by design - in the architectural imagery found within the pages of Global Architecture magazine. Suspended within the composed, often controlled scenes, these minor figures appear as small interruptions within a static frame: a body crossing a threshold, lingering at the edge of a frame, pausing beneath a facade. In photographs otherwise governed by geometry, surface and light, they act as subtle markers of scale, certainly, but also reminders of life, in all its solitude and intimacy, occuring briefly along the building itself - a tension between the clean certainty of modernism and the imperfect business that is being human within it.
